Electric Ladle Heaters


ALTECH has developed electric heaters for preheating and sintering the ladles used:

  • in Foundries for casting and transport of metals in Aluminum Smelters for cast iron sealing of the stubs into the carbon anode block in the Anode Rodding Shops.
  • in Aluminum Smelters for cast iron sealing of the iron bars in the cathode block in the Cell Repair Shops.
  • in Aluminum Smelters in the Casthouse for transport crucibles


The design and power effect of an Electric Heater is decided for each application. In aluminium smelters the Electric Ladle Heater can be designed for pre-heating and sintering the ladles used for cast iron sealing of rod/anodes in the Anode Rodding Shop. For this application the heating element can consist of three 5 kW Silicon Carbide Elements which will reach the heat of 1200 °C inside the ladle.

Gas heaters can reach the same temperature inside the ladle, but they need a noisy fan and also a fume exhaust stack to the roof. The specific auxiliary systems are all designed to give a reliable, safe and automatic operation with the capacity needed for continuous operation 24 hours a day.
